Happiness Is

Patiently Waiting

Happiness is being greeted by a Newfoundland dog.  I could be gone 5 minutes or 3 hours when I am no longer in Bailey’s view.  Upon my return, I get a reception from her that seems to shout, “Oh, how I have missed you!”  She is exuberant with her kisses and nuzzling.  I needed this welcoming today.  I awoke to shooting pain from my knee and imagined staying in bed for the entire day.  With a day jam packed with stuff to do, I knew it was only a dream.  I can’t say that I was in a positive frame of mind.  Knee surgery is now only a week away and for that I am thankful.  Walk TimeKnowing Bailey would be waiting to go out after a long night of sleeping, I got up.  It was a very slow process.  Sure enough, Bailey was patiently sitting in her usual spot.  I bent down to rub her and was instantly covered with a roving tongue.  I am not big on taking drugs.  Being in Bailey’s presence is the best natural medicine.  She is a pro at getting me to forget about my aches.  We enjoyed our three walks during the day.  Bailey seemed to realize that pulling would not be a good idea and heeled with little effort from me.  Her sensitivity to my condition continued inside.  She kept me entertained with her antics that I hardly gave much thought to my knee.  I laughed and smiled.  I was no longer grumpy.  Happiness is Bailey!

My experience has shown that being slimmed by a Newf is not a rare one. These days, I just think of it as a medal of honor.
